About Us

Merle Norman Cosmetics and Boutique is independently owned and operated by Sally Ann Attianese.

I was born February 1947 to Vincent and Antoinette Attianese in Bridgeport, Connecticut. My father was a barber who worked for his father at a young age, and then took over his barber shop which became known as Vincent's Ladies' Barber Shop for over 50 years. The shop was honored as one of the landmark businesses for over 100 years in Bridgeport in a calendar called "On Main Street."

My mother was a beautician who worked for my father's brothers in Sal-Antone Beauty Salon before she married and retired to be a mother. Not only was my mother a beautiful woman, but her knowledge of beauty and her wisdom helped her daughter learn all about skin care and how to play up her assets at a very early age.

As a little girl growing up, I didn't like my looks. I had a large nose, heavy eyebrows and a bad complexion. Always being a very happy, active, curious child, I became very self-conscious, a perfectionist and self-absorbed with my looks, and not a very happy teenager. My mother, in her wisdom, would tell me little "wives' tales" and the story of the "ugly duckling who in spring emerged as a beautiful swan." This helped me to grow up and develop into a woman who not only liked her looks and herself, but also became self-confident and saw beauty in everything around her.

Having an art background and education in high school and college, I used my artistic talent and flair for color and coordination in various career capacities dealing with the public. This, along with my entrepreneurial heritage and my humanitarian nature eventually led me to want to open my own business.

I was introduced to Merle Norman cosmetics at 22 years old with my first makeover, and found that with their skin care regimen, the Miracol Mask and their foundation, my complexion improved over the years. I believe in their products and am proof that the products works. My skin has improved through the years with continued use of their products. Having always worked with the public and believing in women developing their self-esteem, gave me the idea to open a Merle Norman Studio myself, so was the start of Merle Norman Cosmetics and Boutique in Branford, CT.

Merle Norman Cosmetics & Boutique specializes in Wedding Day Makeup Applications for the Bride, Wedding Party, and Mothers of the Bride and Groom.

YOUR WEDDING DAY
Your wedding look is best achieved by starting with a good skin care regiment that includes basic cleansing, toning, and moisturizing, as well as special treatment for problem areas. For best results, start your regiment three months in advance of your wedding.

Next, work with the cosmetics that complement your skin type and tone to achieve the look you want—be it classic, enhanced, or dramatic. Cosmetics should be applied to bring out your natural beauty, even out your skintone, give you a more polished look and play up your assets.

FREE MAKEOVER/CONSULTATION
Our free makeover/consultation allows you to see your bridal look before the wedding day. As your Beauty Advisor, I discuss your total look—from your gown, hair, jewelry, to the color scheme of the wedding party and flowers. We select your colors to achieve your desired look. We discuss brow shaping and make appointments for brows and complimentary facial services if requested.

WEDDING DAY APPLICATION
As your Beauty Advisor, I will do my best with my knowledge and expertise to help you achieve the look you want for your special day. Makeup application will take a half-hour using Merle Norman cosmetics and skin care products at our studio or on location for a fee.

Teen Birthday Parties

Have a Teen Birthday Party with up to four of your friends for two hours of education and fun. Trained Beauty Advisor Sally Ann teaches basic skin care and addresses problem skin and the effects of sun damage. She then gives each girl the famous pink "Miracol" facial. She also skin types each girl, discusses their best features and how to play up their assets and play down the areas they are self-conscious about. Then she goes into the fun part - cosmetics! The Birthday Girl gets a full makeover, while her friends are shown how to make up their eyes and lips and get to play with the cosmetics and makeup on their own faces. It's a fun time for all. There are balloons and party favors for all, as well as literature to take home. We take before and after photos for a keepsake.

By appointment, Tuesday through Friday only for a minimal fee.
